Character story

  • Keira is an 11 years old indigenous girl as an elementary school student in America. She is targeted by other students since she is different from them.

"There are 5 boys in our class and they bully me. They tell me to get out of school and I do not belong to this country. My friends are scared to help me and tell them to stop. They are very mean and dangerous kids. "

  • Helena is a 16 years old high school student and suffers from bullying for her body shape.

“I’m totally traumatized by school bullying. I got made fun of for being fat at school. People would always go out of their way to tell me how fat I was and how unattractive that made me, especially in comparison to other girls. My nickname was ‘sumo wrestler,’ and once a boy drew a sumo wrestler on the blackboard and labelled it with my name.”

  • Ammaar Hussein is 16 and has been a victim of bullying in the past because of his deafness.

“They would speak very slowly, stretching their mouth and making fun of me. One boy called me a robot because I was wearing my hearing aids. I kept thinking that I couldn't communicate properly and that people wouldn't understand me if I tried. I felt embarrassed.”

  • Matt is 14 years old gay man and being bullied by homophobic bullying.

“I’m a femme, gay man. I was always being labelled as ‘too girly’ for being around so many women and also shunned from masculine groups because no one wanted to be hit on by a ‘gay boy.’ I was bullied for being ‘too femme’, it was always homophobic bullying. It would happen on the way to school on the bus, between lessons, sometimes during lessons, and on the bus home. It wasn't just verbal abuse but physical abuse, too. Once, on the way home, my hair was set on fire.”
